Although since it was first held in 1999 the meeting has been devoted to debate key issues of the world economy, on this occasion, the fight against international terrorism will be prioritized in the talks.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that the combat against extremist violence will be at the forefront of the meeting, which is being held under heavy security measures.
Days ago, analysts said that the issue of terrorism would be present in the agenda, especially the conflict in Syria, but the topic became more relevant after the attacks in Paris on Friday night, when more than 100 people were killed.
The ISIL claimed responsibility for the attacks, which have shaken the world, particularly in Europe, where many countries have raised their security alerts to maximum levels.
After the attacks, French President François Hollande cancelled his participation in the G20 Summit, where he will be represented by the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Laurent Fabius, and of Finance, Michel Sapin.
